                                 Early Life


Prataprao Gujar was born in a small village in the present-day Satara district of Maharashtra in 1630. His father, Jagtaprao Gujar, was a small-time landowner and a farmer. Prataprao Gujar received his early education in the village school and was known for his intelligence and bravery from a young age.


Prataprao Gujar joined the army of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks due to his leadership skills and military expertise. He became one of the most trusted generals of Shivaji and was known for his bravery and loyalty towards his king.


                       Military Campaigns


Prataprao Gujar played a crucial role in many military campaigns of the Maratha Empire. He participated in several battles against the Mughals, Adil Shah, and other regional powers. Some of his notable achievements in the battlefield include the siege of Panhala Fort, the Battle of Pratapgad, and the Battle of Kolhapur.


The siege of Panhala Fort in 1660 was one of the most challenging battles of the Maratha Empire. The fort was under the control of Adil Shah, who had a vast army and superior weapons. Prataprao Gujar was appointed as the commander of the Maratha army and was given the responsibility of capturing the fort. Despite facing heavy resistance from the enemy, Prataprao Gujar led his troops to victory and captured the fort.


The Battle of Pratapgad in 1659 was another significant battle in which Prataprao Gujar played a crucial role. The battle was fought between the Marathas and the Mughals, and Prataprao Gujar was given the responsibility of leading the Maratha army. Despite being outnumbered, Prataprao Gujar's military tactics and bravery helped the Marathas win the battle.


The Battle of Kolhapur in 1662 was another crucial battle in which Prataprao Gujar played a significant role. The battle was fought between the Marathas and the forces of Adil Shah, and Prataprao Gujar was appointed as the commander of the Maratha army. Despite facing a superior enemy, Prataprao Gujar led his troops to victory and captured the city of Kolhapur.


                                   Death


Prataprao Gujar's loyalty and bravery towards his king were demonstrated in his final battle. In 1673, the Marathas were engaged in a fierce battle against the forces of the Bijapur Sultanate. During the battle, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was surrounded by the enemy, and Prataprao Gujar offered to exchange his horse with Shivaji's and sacrifice himself. Shivaji initially refused but eventually agreed when Prataprao Gujar insisted.

Prataprao Gujar charged into the enemy lines on Shivaji Maharaj's horse and fought valiantly. He fought bravely but was ultimately overwhelmed by the enemy forces and died in battle. His sacrifice allowed Shivaji to escape and continue the fight against the enemy.

Prataprao Gujar was instrumental in many of Shivaji's successful military campaigns, and his contributions were pivotal in securing the Maratha kingdom.

One of the most notable instances of Prataprao Gujar's bravery was during the Battle of Pavan Khind. In this battle, Shivaji Maharaj was trapped by a much larger Mughal army, and it seemed that all was lost.
