                  Early Life and Education


Moropant Pingle was born in 1620 in the town of Mahad, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. He came from a noble Brahmin family and received a traditional education in Sanskrit and other subjects. His father was a minister in the court of the Bijapur Sultanate.


                                  Career


Moropant Pingle began his career in the service of the Bijapur Sultanate, where he served as a courtier. However, he later switched sides and joined the Maratha army under the leadership of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He played a key role in several military campaigns, including the conquest of Raigad and the capture of Torna Fort.


In 1674, Shivaji Maharaj was crowned king and established the Maratha Empire. Moropant Pingle was appointed as the chief minister, or peshwa, of the new kingdom. He played a crucial role in the administration of the empire, overseeing the collection of taxes and the maintenance of law and order. He was also responsible for maintaining diplomatic relations with other kingdoms and negotiating treaties.

Another significant military campaign in which Moropant Pingle played a key role was the Battle of Pratapgad in 1659. The Mughal army, led by Afzal Khan, had invaded the Maratha kingdom, and a fierce battle ensued. Pingle fought alongside Shivaji and helped to repel the Mughal forces.
